Carmen R. Thomas, President
President of Capacity Solutions Inc has more than 20 years of experience in community development and non-profit management. As the Principal Consultant of Capacity Solutions Inc, Ms. Thomas helps nonprofit organizations reach their greatest potential through consultation, technical assistance, facilitation and training. Specializing in: organizational and program development, capitalization strategies, financial education and grant management. Ms. Thomas also assists nonprofit executives develop and manage complex projects by working with key stakeholders.
Ms. Thomas began her financial career as a bank auditor. She later began working in the community development field with the Delaware State Housing Authority focusing on affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization. She then worked for two major financial institutions serving as a Community Reinvestment Act Officer. While serving as the CRA officer, Ms. Thomas helped create innovative asset building loan products and audience-specific financial education tools and served as a board member for a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and a Community Development Credit Union. After relocating to Detroit, Ms. Thomas served as the Program Director for the Community Capital Resources Department formerly known as the Nonprofit Facilities Center a program of United Way for Southeastern Michigan. Community Capital Resources helped build operating capacity and efficiency in non-profits in the community. Through consultations, technical assistance workshops and predevelopment and capital resources, the program helped nonprofit organizations plan and manage facility projects that enabled them to better serve the community. More than 250 organizations participated in the services offered, accessing more than $1.5 million in planning grant dollars, and $13 million in capital grants to leverage more than $200 million in nonprofit facility development in the Metro Detroit area.
Ms. Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Finance from Hampton University and a Certificate in Nonprofit Community Development from the University of Delaware.
